Commercial Assistant

Our client is a well-established Civils contractor who deals with projects within the commercial and residential sectors. They have a wide and varied client base and a long pipeline of work for the coming year ahead. The business has a young, dynamic, and energetic management team with a strong business plan in place.

We are recruiting for a Commercial Assistant to work alongside the Purchasing Manager for the company. You will become part of a dynamic and friendly team while also being able to build on your office-based skills.

Key Duties:

Providing a high level of administrative support to the purchasing manager and wider team
Ordering and procurement process of materials and stock
Analysis/report preparation and stock review of various products and materials
Updating records of product descriptions and purchase prices frequently
Assisting colleagues in other departments on an ad hoc basis
Dealing with daily correspondence including the preparation of letters and emails
Liaising with suppliers and dealing with any queries/issues such as product availability, requesting quotations and querying lead times etc.
Raising and emailing purchase orders to suppliers
Research and sourcing of products while searching for the best available prices.
Managing other general administrative duties such as the stationary orders and weekly shopping deliveries.

Essential requirements/skills

Strong organisation with the ability to multitask efficiently.
High level of professional integrity
Keen to take on additional responsibility
Good rapport building with customers, suppliers, colleagues, and management
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proven experience in an administrative/procurement role
Self-motivated with the ability to work well with others
IT literate, able to use Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Word
Strong understanding of including and excluding VAT
Ability to calculate percentages, and understanding of discounts and price breaks

Brief Outline
We are currently looking for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established, multi disciplined contractor on the groundworks side of the business, with projects across the London and South East region.

About the Role
We are looking for an ambitious qualified Trainee Quantity Surveyor with ambition to progress to a more senior role within the company’s commercial team in the future.

Duties and responsibilities will include;
Working with the Commercial Manager to ensure successful delivery of projects
Undertaking costing analysis, take-offs and procurement schedules
Monthly reporting
Applications for payment
Identifying and negotiating variations
Material requisitions to the Buying department
Attend meetings with clients and colleagues
Approve Sub-Contractor valuations
Final Account agreements


About the Candidate
NC/ HND / Degree in a construction related field
Wider knowledge of the construction industry
Familiar with site visits and client facing activity
Excellent analytical skills are essential, as are numeracy, literacy and communication skills in English
Computer literacy in MS Office, Project
