We know the construction industry is constantly evolving – but so are the people behind it. To understand how expectations have shifted, we asked over 300 construction professionals one key question:
“How have your career priorities changed in the last 5 years?”
The results were clear – and they highlight a major shift in what matters most to today’s workforce:
Work-life balance takes the lead – 38%
Gone are the days when long hours were worn like a badge of honour. Nearly 4 in 10 professionals now say that work-life balance is their top priority. Flexibility, time off, and personal wellbeing have become non-negotiables.
Salary still matters – 22%
While it’s not the only thing, competitive pay is still a key factor. In a talent-short market, failing to offer fair and appealing salaries can quickly drive candidates elsewhere.
Growth is a priority – 22%
Professionals want more than just a job – they’re looking for a clear path to progress. Companies that invest in development, promotions, and upskilling stand out from the competition.
Culture and Values Count – 18%
Nearly 1 in 5 candidates said that a company’s values and culture play a big role in their decision to stay or go. Teams that foster inclusion, transparency, and purpose have a better shot at retaining the best talent.
Are you keeping up?
Today’s construction professionals are looking for more than just a payslip. They want to work somewhere that respects their time, supports their growth, and aligns with their values.
If you’re looking to build a team that lasts, it’s time to ask: Does your offer reflect what talent really wants in 2025?
