Position: Project Draughtsman
Location: Staines or Darlington (Office-Based)

About the Role:

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist building envelope contractor for an experienced Project Draughtsman to join their established design team. This role will focus on delivering high-quality drawing packages for roofing and cladding systems on commercial and public sector projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, compliant, and coordinated drawings and material schedules in line with project requirements and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce detailed 2D and general arrangement drawings for approval, procurement, and installation

• Interpret and apply project specifications, enquiry drawings, and estimates

• Ensure all outputs meet internal QA standards and manufacturer recommendations

• Liaise with design team members, clients, and subcontractors to gather and clarify technical details

• Identify and highlight variations in design information

• Attend project handovers, client design meetings, and site visits as required

• Manage subcontract design packages (e.g. syphonic drainage, louvres, mansafe systems)

• Develop roof drainage solutions and support structural engineers with technical data

• Coordinate and monitor junior design staff if applicable

• Issue regular progress updates and maintain drawing registers

• Assist in checking and updating as-built drawings and specifications

Requirements:

• HNC or equivalent in a design-related subject

• Proven experience as a draughtsperson or designer in construction, preferably in building envelopes

• Strong AutoCAD skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

• Experience with 3D CAD software is desirable

• Excellent organisational and communication skills

• Ability to manage workload independently and meet deadlines

• Attention to detail and a proactive, accountable approach

Desirable Technical Knowledge:

Experience with any of the following systems is highly advantageous:

• Flat Roofing: Single Ply, Hot Melt, Cold Applied, Felt

• Hard Metal Roofing & Cladding: Copper, Zinc, Lead

• Traditional Slating & Tiling

• Industrial Roofing: Aluminium Standing Seam, Composite Panels

• Cladding Systems: Composite, Twin Skin, Rainscreen (incl. HPL, Fibre Cement, CWCT)
