About our Client 

My client is a very well established curtain walling specialist sub-contractor based in Essex. They work on very prestigious and technical curtain walling projects across the South East and are looking for an experienced Design Manager to join their team. 

About the Role 

Management of designers (remote), 

Preparation of design budgets for inclusion in tender submissions. 

Manage the project design team to ensure design output achieves the agreed budget and programme. 

Produce, monitor and adjust, as may be required, Design programmes reflecting the required timely production of design output. Monitor, control and report on the expenditure of design budgets at monthly CVR meetings. 

Allocation and adjustment, as may be necessary, of staff and sub-contracted resources to ensure design output meets project requirements in consultation with the Company’s Operation’s Managers 

Understand the design output requirements of the Company’s Projects with respect to tendered scope of works, selection of suitable materials and systems, taking into account Specified requirements, National and International Standards, Building Regulations, manufacturer’s recommendations and good practice within our special sector of construction. 

Consider the project specific design in respect of the Company’s Statutory obligations under the CDM Regulations. 

Compliance with the Company’s Documented Quality Management System to ISO 9001. Ensure that recorded regular internal reviews are undertaken and that the level of checks carried out on design output is commensurate with risk profile of the project. 

Liaison with external Consultants and Sub-Contract Designers as is necessary to ensure the design output is adequate for the purposes intended and is being produced in a timely and efficient manner. 

Contribute to the prompt resolution of design related problems that may arise on Contracts and for which the Company’s Project Managers require approved designs to be re-considered. 

Contribute to the recruitment and development of human resource within the Department in consultation with the Director who has executive responsibility for the Department. 

Carry out Performance Reviews with members of the Design Office Team 

From time to time carry out related functions as may be required by any of the Company’s Directors. 

Ensure design is carried out in a collaborative manner, especially with supply chain and customer partners in accordance with BS11000. 

About the Candidate            

High level of technical competency. 

Ideally a Façade Engineering degree 

Have good attention to detail. 

Must come from a façade background 

Excellent verbal and communication skills 

At least 5 years of design management experience 

Must be able to work in Central London or Essex
